Description

Illustration for the 7-th chapter of "Thunder Struck" by :iconmerlosthemad:
This story is reeeeaally cute and I decided to make this picture as a surprise gift for the author.

:iconpinkiepieplz:  SURPRISE!! :)

Unfortunately, "Thunder Struck" is not finished and has not been updated for a while, but I hope MerlosTheMad will fix that someday :)

Wow, amazing pic! And my quick comment is getting quite long, so I'll upgrade into a Critique. <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/> As a warning up front: I DO nitpick, especially when pictures are really good! Please don't take it as "this all leapt out at me straight away", this is a great pic and I did need to look for things to nitpick.

WIP changes:
+ Changing the dog to a cat was a good call - it fills up the space a lot better! The flashing eyes were a bit of a gamble, I think, but they really paid off! Your cat is striking and realistic! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>
++ Plus its fur suggests a surprise encounter (with the dog we may have imagined that the pet is always pestering Sweetie Bot).
+ Moving Sweetie's gaze forward has also benefited the pic: It's already clear that Sweetie's running from the animal, the eyes forward show us how intent she is on escape.

Nitpicks (mostly background):
- I'd say the perspective doesn't make it clear how close the cat is. I don't analyse perspective often so I'm not entirely sure how you could fix that (the blur's already there and the angle or size of the pic would need to be changed to allow for shadows). I suppose in some ways that adds to an illusion of the cat being panther-sized, which fits with the "panicking filly-bot flees from household pet who seems dangerous to her" theme quite nicely, but at the same time it doesn't feel deliberate (probably due to the overall realism).
- It's also a bit hard to work out what's going on with the background... Looking at the WIPs, that's a table nearest, but at first I honestly thought that was part of the wall.
- I think you may have over-blurred the chest of drawers, especially given how good it looked in the second WIP pic. Though this could easily be just a matter of opinion.
- I'm sure that's a sofa back in dark red but the way the cushions bulge make it look... Unlike sofas I'm used to. Maybe I've missed out on sofa types, but weird furniture can be a bit of a gamble, especially for pics with a lot happening.
- The partially-transparent cat-on-sofa-back: In the first WIP it looks like a surprisingly relaxed cat in the background. Now that it's more transparent it's... Maybe a shadow? And why would a cat be so relaxed whilst this is going on? Again, perhaps I've misjudged this, or maybe it is in the story, but if it were a cat I'd expect it to be opaque and at least looking towards the noise.

Sweetie Bot:
- The scraggly hair looks good! Perhaps a little too bright towards the front but it provides a great texture contrast with the metal!
- The segments/joints are convincing; she does look very mobile.
- The scrambling pose is quite messy but that adds to the "sudden panic by a young creature with non-clingy feet on a wooden floor" impression.
- The expression's good! One thing: The eyes. They don't seem to be focusing on the same thing. Again, maybe this is something in the story, but (to show what I mean) if you cover her right eye she's staring past your hand and if you cover her left she's staring more towards your hand. Also may have helped to either shrink or expand her pupils more, though I'm aware the show style tends to change the iris size a lot so perhaps that's how you're doing it!
- Great shading!

And there we go! Again, I'm nitpicking because the problems need to be nitpicked to be mentioned (and saying "everything's great" is nice but not always helpful as feedback). Overall this is a very striking pic with a great level of realism given that it features a robotic unicorn filly!

Rating explanation:
- Vision: You wanted to draw Sweetie Bot fleeing from a domestic animal and you did so!
- Originality: The idea may be based on a story, but I don't see many pics of cutesy robot animals running from domestic pets!
- Technique: While the main subjects are great, I feel the background is a little more confusing to look at than it should be. Hopefully you understand what I meant by that. Were it just Sweetie and the cat you'd have 5/5 here!
- Impact: Again, the main subjects are great! Also, the atmosphere of the pic is well displayed and the calm, domestic, background adds contrast to the events, though I personally feel that it being clearer would have furthered this effect.

An awesome pic very well done! <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s…" width="15" height="15" alt=":)" data-embed-type="emoticon" data-embed-id="391" title=":) (Smile)"/>
